Homeowners Assistance Program
Program Coordinator
SeniorLAW Center is seeking an attorney to
serve as Coordinator of its Homeowners Assistance Program,
an innovative legal services program aimed at enabling older
homeowners to remain independent in their communities in
safe, habitable homes.
SeniorLAW Center, based in center city
Philadelphia, is a nonprofit public interest legal services
organization protecting the legal rights and interests of
senior citizens in need with a variety of programs and
services for the past 30 years. Its Homeowners Assistance
Program addresses the legal needs of older homeowners. Its
multi-faceted approach provides direct legal representation
in a wide spectrum of housing issues, including contractor
fraud, tangled title, property damage, and fraudulent deed
transfers; community legal education; professional training;
and systemic advocacy. The program improves access of older
homeowners to critically needed legal representation,
information, services and resources, with focus on the
low-income, isolated, cultural/racial minorities, and elders
with Limited English or limited education.
We are seeking an energetic, flexible,
creative, confident, and culturally-sensitive person to
provide direct legal services to senior clients; provide
day-to-day management, training, supervision, and evaluation
of the program; conduct community education and trainings
for attorneys and other service providers; foster
relationships with a diverse range of local, regional and
national service providers and community groups; develop new
educational and pro bono resources to serve seniors; and
research best practices and pursue systemic reform. The
Coordinator trains, partners with and helps to supervise the
work of other legal staff, pro bono volunteer attorneys, and
law students.
Applicants must be active members of the
Pennsylvania Bar, with a minimum of three years relevant
legal experience, including experience in housing and
litigation. Excellent oral and written communications
skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and
deadlines; and a commitment to serving vulnerable and
diverse communities required. We seek applicants with
management or supervisory experience, and demonstrated
leadership abilities in a legal organization, with emphasis
upon direct client services.
Experience in aging and/or poverty law,
representing clients in housing litigation, and working with
senior citizens, minority, and limited English proficient
communities are all preferred. Persons from immigrant
backgrounds and with bilingual ability are strongly
encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with experience
and competitive in the public interest arena, with excellent
benefits. This position reports to the Managing Attorney
and Executive Director.
