For nearly three decades, Community Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) has provided the highest quality legal assistance to the needy with the ongoing support of the Philadelphia Bar Association and the legal community. Our mission is to help low-income Philadelphia residents with legal problems by providing them with advice and representation in civil matters. In 1999 alone, we handled over 20,000 cases. Since we opened our doors, we have served over one million individuals directly. This is in addition to providing community education to inform low-income communities about their legal rights, policy analysis and advocacy, and filing class action law suits to help large numbers of poor people facing similar injustices.

The Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly, is a non-profit organization, based in Philadelphia, dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable older people. CARIE was founded in 1977 primarily as an advocacy organization for the frail elderly. Its initial program, the CARIE LINE, quickly became recognized throughout the region as a resource for a wide range of people and institutions seeking to resolve elder care issues.

BenefitsCheckUp was developed to address a concerning problem: millions of older adults are eligible for benefits, but not receiving them. Ranging from health coverage to supplemental income to help in paying utility bills, there are millions of older adults who could benefit from a wide array of public programs if they knew about them and how to apply for them.

The Emergency Fund Coalition for Older Philadelphians, sponsored by the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA), was formed in 1989 to coordinate fundraising efforts by member organizations and to collectively provide emergency assistance to low-income older persons.
