VOLUNTEER ATTORNEYS URGENTLY NEEDED!

SeniorLAW Center works with a panel of pro bono volunteer attorneys who help us provide free legal services to persons sixty years of age and older who have limited incomes and live in Philadelphia.  Each year, through the efforts of our legal staff and our extraordinary volunteers, we assist thousands of seniors with problems which affect their homes, health, independence, financial survival, and quality of life.

JOIN SeniorLAW Center’s PANEL OF VOLUNTEER ATTORNEYS!

The need for your help is enormous.  Did you know that Philadelphia has the largest and one of the poorest populations of senior citizens among this country’s 20 largest cities?  Nearly 25 percent of our community’s elderly -- 1 in 4 -- are living at or below the poverty level or are economically vulnerable.  Most are women.

Attorneys who join the SeniorLAW Center panel provide representation in any of a wide range of legal matters, which include:

  • The writing of simple WILLS, DEEDS, POWERS OF ATTORNEY & LIVING WILLS

  • CUSTODY and SUPPORT cases for Grandparents and other Elder Caregivers

  • LANDLORD/TENANT problems

  • FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION issues

  • Petitions for PROTECTION AGAINST ABUSE

  • CONSUMER CLAIMS (often home repair contractor cases)

  • HOUSING CODE VIOLATION proceedings

  • REAL ESTATE TAX cases

  • PROBATE of small and uncomplicated estates

  • Certain APPEALS to the Court of Common Pleas

In many of these areas, we are the only recourse for low-income clients.  In others, we work with other legal service programs and with social agencies and health care facilities as well.

We welcome attorneys in any field.  We also have a great need for BILINGUAL ATTORNEYS, especially those who speak Spanish or any Asian language, to assist our growing Latino and Asian elderly populations.
